How do I check a message?

Go to "Check a message". Take a photo or screenshot of the text, email or letter, or copy and paste its words. Then press "Check this message".

You will see an answer at the top, then what to do next.

Who is Angela?

Angela is the friendly name we gave our AI helper. She is a computer program, not a real person, and she cannot talk to you on the phone or by email.

What do the answers mean?

"Likely scam" means the message has strong signs of a scam. Do not reply, click, call or pay.

"Be careful" means something about it is not right, or we could not tell for sure. Treat it as a possible scam until you check with the company yourself.

"Looks safe" means we did not find warning signs. It is still not a promise that the message is real.

Can the answer be wrong?

Yes. This is a check done by a computer program (AI), not a guarantee. Scammers keep changing their tricks.

If you are unsure, call the company using a phone number you already trust, such as the one on the back of your card or on a paper statement. Never use a phone number, link or email address from the message itself.

Is this safe to use?

Yes. Checking a message here cannot harm you or your device. We look at your photo or words, but we never open links, call numbers or reply to anyone in the message. The scammer will never know you checked.

We never ask for your name, passwords, bank details or money. There is no account, so there is nothing for anyone to steal from you here.

What you send travels over a private, locked connection, and we do not keep it after the check.

We will never call, text or email you. If someone says they are from this service and asks for money or personal details, that is a scam.

No website can promise to be perfect, so before you take a photo, it is still wise to cover things like account numbers.

Is my photo or message saved?

No. We do not save your photo or the words of your message. They are sent to our AI service (Claude, made by Anthropic) only to check them, and then we show you the answer.

Even so, it is a good idea to cover or crop out things like account numbers before you take the photo.

Does it cost anything? Do I need an account?

It is free to try, and you do not need an account or a password.

To keep the service fair for everyone, you can do up to 20 checks an hour.

What if I already clicked, paid or gave my details?

Do not feel ashamed. This happens to careful, smart people every day, and acting quickly helps.

Call your bank or card company right away using the number on your card or statement. Tell them what happened and ask them to stop any payments.

If you paid with a gift card, call the company that sold the card using the number on the back of the card.

If you gave a password, change it. If someone took control of your computer, turn it off and ask someone you trust for help.

You can report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The AARP Fraud Watch Network helpline (877-908-3360) is free and can talk you through next steps.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. It works on phones, tablets and computers. On a phone you can take a photo with the camera, or pick a screenshot you already have.
